HardScape 101 owner, Brian McThorn, has over 25+ years experience in the hardscape and construction market. He is a licensed California masonry contractor. His background includes every aspect of the hardscape industry. He has worked with leading producers as a marketing representative to distributors, architects and engineers. Brian continues to consult other contractors in the business of interlocking paving stones and segmental retaining walls. He can provide LEED consultations on Sustainable Designs and Best Management Practices (BMP) for permeable interlocking concrete pavements, sand-set paving stones and mortarless retaining walls.

Brian was a senior project manager/senior estimator for both union and open shop installation companies. He is a Certified ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute)Level One Instructor and a Certified PICP (Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement) Installer Technician Course Instructor. Brian is also a certified instructor for Allan Block segmental retaining walls. HardScapes 101 works closely with ICPI guidelines, practices and recommendations. He brings a vast history of product knowledge, project management, estimating, marketing/advertising and presentation skills. Under his management, installation crews installed over 5 million square feet of hardscape products; including such renowned projects as Universal Studios City Walk in Los Angeles and Big Horn Country Club in Palm Desert. Whether a small and inviting backyard patio, to an expansive commercial project… Brian knows how to get the job done on time and on budget.

During his tenure with Basalite and Calstone, both hardscape products manufacturers, Brian instructed and trained over 5,000 individuals in seminars, hands-on demonstrations and contractor certification courses. As the founder of HardScapes 101, he has instructed over 4,000 individuals from municipalities, designers, engineers and contractors to the benefits of permeable interlocking concrete paving and sand-set paving stones. Brian will work directly with you, your staff and your work force to insure you understand all aspects of the hardscape construction market.
